Sergio V. Paredes

Of Counsel

Ser received his Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law, and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1964. Upon his admission to the bar, he entered public service as a prosecutor (assistant fiscal) in 1966 and became the Provincial Fiscal of the Province of Abra in 1978 until his retirement in 1987. Not wanting to leave his office at the Paredes Hall of Justice (aptly named after his grand uncle, the late Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Don Quintin Paredes), he came out of retirement, applied and was accepted as the Provincial Head of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) from 1987 to 1999. Upon his 2nd retirement, he set up his private law practice, ran and held the position of President of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Abra Chapter from 1999 to 2014 as this allowed him to continue going to the same office building for 48 years. He now resides in Metro Manila and serves as an adviser to Paredes Law.

On the Lighter Side:

Ser is a creature of habit. Up to now, he does the same daily routine he used to do when he was a new lawyer, 54 years ago. Legend has it that he has mastered and could recite by heart every article of the Revised Penal Code. He is happy being single, free from all the trappings of married life.
